How to Forge an Unforgettable Impression

Read an interesting news article the other day.

Talked about a study of leadership ability undermined by a larger waistline.

The study found that weight influences perceptions of leaders among their subordinates, peers and superiors.

“Executives with larger waistlines and higher body-mass-index readings tend to be perceived as less effective in the workplace, both in performance and interpersonal relationships, according to data compiled by CCL. BMI, a common measure of body fat, is based on height and weight.”

Key word there is PERCEIVED.

As in first impression.

It matters.

If you’re the type of man in any sort of leadership position (or considering stepping into once) – whether children, loved one, co-workers, employees or simply yourself…

Your current level of fitness says something about you.

I’m not saying it’s right or fair, but people make snap judgements about us simply by our physique and how we carry ourselves.

So while you can’t change people you CAN change yourself.

And changes are often come with hidden costs, like Scott discovered.

Scott is one of the Spartans in my elite one-on-one coaching program.

He told me the other day he has to go buy all new jeans now because the 36’s are too big.

New shirts are gonna be needed too.

It’s the equivalent of shedding your old self, for the new and improved 2.0 version.

It feels good, and is worth the effort and sweat required, just like Cameron discovered:

“You have already impacted my training in an amazing way. My friends are saying, “Seriously, are you working out a lot because you’re looking bigger”. And I’m not a real big guy to start with. Also I feel great. All of the resources in your toolkit are also amazing, and I realize that this an extremely solid program. Thanks again for everything, Ryan. I look forward to continuing to be a dedicated Spartan and partner in strength training. Thanks brother!”
