Oh boy.

The other day I was hanging out with one of my girlfriends and she told me an interesting story.

Earlier that day she was volunteering at a cycling marathon.

She had the job of directing the cyclists and cheering them to keep pressing on.

She told me the hardest part of the gig was determining whether it was a guy or girl riding past her!

They were going so fast and all their bodies looked the same she had to check for a pony tail.

Yikkkkkes.

It’s a good litmus test on your training results.

Building a masculine frame or stuck in the soft slender look?

From 20 feet away does your body project there is a MAN standing here or does it only raise questions?

Now a frame isn’t all we’re after.

Can’t be all looks and no substance.

It’s the functional strength, stamina & confidence that comes combo packaged with a hard body.

When your co-workers are tapping out due to fatigue you’re plowing away effortlessly.

When a neighbor needs help moving that couch you’re the man they call because they know YOU CAN HANDLE IT.

Your presence radiates it.

The Biggest Lie in Health

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about freedom.

How liberating it is to know we can carve and shape our own destiny.

In the gym, the office, home… wherever.

This weekend I was savoring the rush of true freedom – zipping around on my CBR motorcycle with the Rockies at my back.

Nothing beats the open, windy road.

Yes there is a risk riding.

A potential cost of life, injury, limb…

But there is a cost to not riding as well.

There is ALWAYS a cost… to everything.

For some reason people forget this.

They mistakenly believe if they remain in “stand still” mode they can’t make a mistake and thus there is no cost.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Doing nothing costs you big time.

It could be an opportunity cost – missing out on a great new career because you’ve chosen to remain stuck with your OK one.

Perhaps a consequence cost, like finding out your actions have pivoted your life on a totally new trajectory that you had no intention of following.

I had the pleasant experience of re-visiting this one first hand.

But… that’s life and you’re better off in the long run accepting it instead of trying to foolishly ignore it.

Especially when it comes to your health.

Every item of food you place into your mouth HAS A COST.

Every skipped gym session HAS A COST.

Every 5 hour sleep night HAS A COST.

Cost doesn’t mean negative… perhaps you’re OK with the pleasure of stuffing down donuts daily in exchange for a lifespan reduction of 10 years.

That’s for YOU to decide.

Not the government, not me, nobody.

Success Secret from a Dead World Leader

This came across my monitor today and wanted to pass it along…

This is a guy who was born with asthma and was sick as kid all the time.

 

What did he do about it?

 

He embraced a strenuous life in order to overcome his physical weakness.

 

Oh yea – he also was Commander in Chief of the United States.

 

So it’s safe to say he know’s a thing or two about growth and overcoming adversity.

 

When you begin you’re journey for a Spartan body (or any venture in self-improvement) you will have critics, whom I affectionally call haterz.

 

And if you listen to them – shame on you.

 

Like Teddie said, the credit belongs to YOU ‘cuz you’re in the arena taking the hits, making the changes and those difficult decisions necessary to advance in health & life.

 

Chin up.

I heard from some of my friends that it’s better not to do abdominal workout because if I work abs and if then for some reason I couldn’t do it for few days then I’m gonna gain much fat in the abdominal area.  Is it true?? Should I just do cardiovascular and strength training excluding abs ?

Like your example from “friends” advice.

Total nonsense.

Your abs are a muscle like every other in your body.

Don’t fear workin’ em.

Getting a nice set of ripped abs won’t come from ONE particular thing.

Many fitness gurus like to pinpoint the ‘reason’ you don’t have abs is because you’re missing ‘magic secret effect x’.

The real reason a guy doesn’t have abs is cuz he has a flaw (usually multiple) in his approach.

Until he is aware of the specific elements involved, isolates and fixes them, he’s gonna be wasting effort.

Cuz there is a SPECIFIC PROCESS (i.e. step-by-step method) you can follow that will guarantee abs show up.

Yes, IN TIME.

Doesn’t happen overnight.

Simple question but a lot behind it.

Cuz if you’re not motivated to do something – eat better, train, go to work, whatever… there’s a good chance you simply won’t.

Or you will irk it out, but you’ll HATEEEE every minute of it.

Lotsa guys think because they’re missing motivation or low on motivation something is wrong with THEM.

They’ll be delighted to know it ain’t the case.

The issue isn’t with them but it’s what they’re DOING (or not doing).

It’s very A-B-C.

Just like driving down the highway.

Each mile marker you past lets you know you’re headed in the right direction.

And road signs tell you if you went too far.

So as you drive along you’re not stuck wondering… am I going the right way?

Will I ever get there???

Naw.

You’re leaned back, cruising & listening to the radio blast out Justin Bieber (don’t lie!).

Because you’re making progress in the right direction you can relax.

When it comes to building a lean muscular body too many guys look at the WRONG signs.

And thus they lose motivation.

And end up with little to no changes with their body.

Cuz they’re doing silly things like looking at the measure or measuring weight on a scale.

Not the way to go.

Raiders of the Lost Workout

Watched some Indiana Jones this weekend.

My favorite part is when Indy is racin through the street and the crowd parts to reveal a master swordsman.

Dude starts swinging his sword around to look all fancy and threatening.

The crowd oohs & ahhhs wondering what Indy is gonna do?

Unfazed, Indy pulls out his gun and fires one shot.

Game over.

Never gets old!

And sadly, for some reason, neither does stupid, complex workouts.

For some reason many guys mistakenly think if I just do something more complex, more challenging I’ll confuse my muscle and FINALLY build that v-tapered back.

Wellll….

First off, muscles do not have brains.

So they don’t get ‘confused’.

Second, the #1 reason for FAILURE in adherence.

Meaning sticking with it.  Finishing.

Why?

Because guys are getting tired of putting in all this crazy effort with little or nothing to show for it.

(of course, if they went through A Spartan Rises they could bypass all that nonsense)

Phew, headin back from a week at Vegas.

Phew, headin back from an eventful week in Vegas.

Now it wasn’t ALLL fun & games.

Was there with a lotta YouTubers actually.

For a biz conference that I got to speak at.

(Also walked with Carrie Preston on red carpet… which you saw if we’re facebook buds).

Afterwards I was chatting with a fellow Youtuber tellin me about his channel.

He has some great stories he wants to share and was buzzing with energy bout’em.

Lotsa good ideas too.

But when I asked him the one question that really mattered, he fell flat on his face.

“How many videos have you shot?”

Do’h.

That’s when the excuses (labeled as reasons) poured out…

Needed a better script..

Bigger production team…

More video traffic…

Tis a shame.

See the same thing with fellas looking to change their body too.

They really wanna change, most are willing to do the work.

But get caught in the perfection black-hole.

Need the perfect workout, perfect exercise, yada yada yada.

And maybe for the fancy shmancy programs you do I dunno.

But for a Spartan physique you go with the total opposite.

You take the simple approach.

Hit it hard with The Spartan 7.

Get in, get out, get on with your life.

(as a much stronger man).

The challenge and personal growth that comes along with it is what makes ya keep moving forward.
